According to legend, the islet was made over the course of centuries by local seamen who kept an oath after discovering the icon of Maddona and the Child on the rock in the sea .Returning from their voyages, they laid a rock in the Bay. Over time, the islet gradually emerged from the sea.

Together with the nearly overhanging limestone cliffs of Orjen and Lovćen mountains, Kotor and its surrounding area form an picturesque landscape.
